In March 2009, President Bill Clinton and Frank Giustra traveled to Latin America to visit programs sponsored by the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative (CGSGI), a project of the William J. Clinton Foundation. Since its establishment in 2007, CGSGI has been working with the private sector, governments, local communities, and other NGOs to increase the scope, scale, impact, and sustainability of social and economic development efforts in areas where poverty is widespread. With several new projects underway, CGSGI and its partners are upholding the private sector’s commitment to sustainable development. The visit to Peru and Colombia provided them with an opportunity to see firsthand the progress of several CGSGI programs and speak directly to the people whose lives have been improved by the initiative. “We’re helping to connect people with markets, education, nutrition, health care, and other tools they need to create jobs, lift themselves out of poverty, and drive sustainable development in their communities,” President Clinton said.
