On October 17, 2008, the Business Council of British Columbia hosted a conference in Vancouver — Investing Today for Tomorrow: Corporate Responsibility in British Columbia. Business leaders from across the Canadian province came together to provide examples of how businesses can develop solutions to social and environmental problems.

Former President Bill Clinton and Frank Giustra served as the keynote speakers and stressed that corporate social responsibility is an integral part of 21st century corporate citizenship in today’s interconnected world. During times of economic uncertainty, as President Clinton remarked at the conference, “you may have to trim your sails a little bit, but you don’t crawl into the hold and forget about the rest of the world because they are your future. That is your market, they’re your customers, they’re your environment, and you can’t run away from them.”
